Přerov ('pr̝̊ɛrof) is a city in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic, situated on the Bečva river. Přerov is statute city (2006). It has population about 47000 inhabitants (2006). Přerov is situated about 22Km south-east from Olomouc. Its geographical location makes it intersection of ways and heart of Moravia in the Czech republic. The locality settlement dates back to the primeval times. There is world-renowned prehistoric site from the older stone age on the mound called Hradisko at Přerov Předmostí. The oldest written note on Přerov dates from 1133 and the King Přemysl Otakar gave Přerov the privilege of a royal town in 1256. The mansion Přerov built in place of the former castle was a residence of influential house- the House of Pernstejn and Žerotín, from which Charles the Older of Žerotín significantly influenced the destinies of the town. Přerov is called by right,,city of Comenius and Blahoslav,, the most significant personalities of the Unity of Brethren as well as of the Bohemian culture in the 16th and 17th centuries. The cultural and social life of the city in the 19th century took up tradition of the past, above all those of the Brethern time. Přerov ranked among the advanced cities of Moravia and contributed to the Czech national development. Introducing the railroad in 1841 brought Přerov a quick development of industries and agriculture, above all machine industry, power-plant facilities, hemp industry, brewing and sugar making. Later, the chemical industry as well as production of leatherware and optical deviced acceded. In Přerov was discovered titan white lead in Precheza Inc. In Přerov are situated many high schools, branch of Bata University of Zlín, University of logistic, museum, libraries, sports centre (swimming pool, hockey stadium, football stadium), restaurants, pubs. Přerov is also the city of army. In Přerov is situated site of helicopter air force. At present, Přerov is a social, administrative and cultural centre of the District with developing economics.
