The City of Caraguatatuba, widely known by its abbreviation Caraguá, is a city in the northeastern state of São Paulo in Brazil. The name comes from the Tupi language and one of the words includes tuba meaning. Caraguatatuba is the largest city of São Paulo north shore. The economy of the City of Caraguatatuba is driven by agriculture and tourism. The population in 2003 is 86,944, its density is 179.64/km² and the area is 484 km². The urban area and farmlands are within the coastline and valley areas, the majority of the northern part are heavily forested and rarely serves any roads to that area.
