Barbil

Barbil is a town and a municipality in the Keonjhar district of the state of Orissa, India.
The region around Barbil has the fifth largest deposit of iron ore and manganese ore in the world. It is a major source of revenue generation for both the central and the state government. The residents of Barbil unfortunately do not get any benefits out of the revenue generated. The basic infrastructure particularly the roads (roads leading towards Rourkela and Tatanagar are at a Misarable state 80Km towards each side, It takes 6 to 8 hours to reach Keonjhar which is the District head quarters situated 77K.M due to traffic jam) and public health are non-existent and the state government has made no attempts to improve this. The nearest available fire tender is in Champua about 50 km away, and will therefore take an average of four hours to arrive in case of a fire. The politicians of the region have made no attempts to improve the basic infrstructure and the benefits do not flow to common people at all. Barbil has a cosmopolitan culture due to the influx of people from almost all states of India and boast of a very good convent school by the name 'St. Mary's School'. (...) more....
