Gloppen is a municipality in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway.
Gloppen was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Breim was separated from Gloppen January 1, 1886 - but it was again merged with Gloppen January 1, 1964.
The municipality is located in the middle of the Nordfjord region and borders to Flora, Bremanger, Naustdal, Jølster, Eid and Stryn municipalities.
Gloppen is subdivided into three areas; Hyen (the westernmost part), Gloppen (the central part) and Breim (the easternmost part.) Each of the areas have their own service centres, Sandane - the administrative centre being the biggest with some 2500 inhabitants followed by Byrkjelo, Reed and Straume. (...) more....
