Reyðarfjörður is a town located 30km southeast of Egilsstaðir, Iceland. The town sits at the head of the largest fjord in the east coast of Iceland (of the same name). From the early 20th century, Reyðarfjörður had been used as a trading port. It was one of the Allied bases in Iceland during the World War II. There is a war museum, located at the old camp above the town. Reyðarfjörður is surrounded with beautiful mountains called Hádegisfjall and Grænafell The town has about 2 300 inhabitants.
The controversial Alcoa aluminium smelting plant is 3km east of the town. (...)
