Savusavu is one of the more developed areas on Vanua Levu, but that doesn't say much. A small town of about 5,000 people, there is an airport and ferry that service Savusavu, connecting to Nadi. There are a number of places to eat, mostly cheap curries, but you can find a few upscale places offering lots of fresh salad and of course, seafood.
It's a quiet town - you will find a grocery store, a local farmer's market, and most everything you might need (SIM card, sunglasses, batteries) if you search the local shops. There are a couple of cheaper hotels right down town, but if you walk down the road a bit you'll find some nicer, quieter resorts. Savusavu is also a place where yachts dock as they circumvent the globe!
