Listvyanka's biggest draw is that it is near Irkutsk -- if you don't have a lot of time to explore Lake Baikal, you can get to Listvyanka in a couple of hours and really maximize on your lakeside time. However, Listvyanka's biggest draw is also its biggest drawback. Its accessibility makes it the hottest tourist spot on the lake, and prices are a bit higher because of all the wealthy Russians who come for short vacations. But keep in mind that you're still in Siberia, and that there are far fewer tourists here than in Moscow or St. Petersburg. You can easily find peace and quiet during the week when things settle down, and on weekends you can escape the crowds by simply walking further up or down the main road for a few kilometers. Bring a book or journal, as there's not much to do in Listvyanka besides find a pier or a nice patch of gravelly sand, and soak in the serenity of the water while contemplating life -- that is, unless you're crazy enough to jump into the lake (which is never warmer than 15C), in which case, bring a flask of vodka!
