Dawson Creek is a town in northeastern British Columbia in Canada. It has an area of 20.66 square kilometers and 11,290 inhabitants (2004). The city has the nickname "Mile 0 City" (City of the zeroth dt mile), as it forms the southern end or the beginning of the Alaska Highway. The associated waypoint Mile 0 Post is the main element of the city flag. The name comes from the Dawson Creek Bach (engl. creek) of the same name, which flows through the city and a land surveyor in August 1879 was named after George Mercer Dawson. As the city's service center of the surrounding rural areas south of Peace River, site of the Peace River Regional District and transportation hub on the way from Alberta to British Columbia's north part of the Rocky Mountains, she gave herself the title of The Capital of the Peace (dt.
