Bucerias travel guide

High Season is between October to April. The weather is basically the same everyday - hot, sunny and perfect. Bucerias does get the occasional overcast day, but if it rains during these months, it would make the local paper - rare indeed!

The hottest months are July, August

Currency is Mexican Pesos. Banks and major hotels will accept Traveler's Checks, but most establishments will not. There are plenty of ATM machines around, which will give you local currency.

If possible, use the ATM at a bank, during regular business hours in case there is a problem with the machine. That way, you can deal with them on the spot. Some "no name" machines have been known short change you.

TIP: Canadians should bring Canadian money. There is no sense exchanging your money into US funds simply to change them into Pesos. All money exchange places take both Canadian

Most places in Bucerias are within walking distance, but the bus system works well also to cross town. For only $5 pesos, you can take the bus. Just look for the painted destination on the front window and make sure it says Bucerias.

The bus to Puerto Vallarta (look for Centro) is $10 pesos. Getting back is a little different. In PV, you have to take a bus to Walmat ($5 pesos) and then you can take another bus to Bucerias ($10 pesos).

Taxis are also available.

TIP: Negotiate the price BEFORE you leave.

The closest airport is Puerto Vallarta (PVR). It is about 20 minutes away.

If you are at the airport, you can take the Airport taxi (Federaly licensed) or if you cross the highway on the footbridge, you can take a city yellow taxi. Airport taxis are prices higher, but somewhat more convinient. After getting your lugguage and heading towards getting a taxi, avoid speaking with the aggressive vendors before crossing the sliding doors (even if they look official - they are Timeshare People (they don't share time - they waste it if that is not what you are there for!). There is an official taxi booth where you can buy tickets.

You can also take the bus to Bucerias. Just look for Bucerias painted on the glass and it's $10 pesos.

Bucerias has streets of cobble stones, and sidewalks are either non-existent or have 4 feet sheer drops. Wheelchairs would be a problem around town, but most hotels would be wheelchair friendly. Check with your hotel to see if they are equipped for those with disabilities.
