An island paradise
Havelock is easily the most developed island in the Andamans, but because of the time and cost it takes to get there, that still doesn't mean much. A far cry from the overcrowded beaches of Thailand, Havelock has a laid-back scene that seduces travelers into staying as long as their permit will allow: thatched bamboo huts, great seafood, and a beach that Time magazine called the "Best Beach in Asia" in 2004. The island itself is quite large, and any trip to the famous Radha Nagar beach is a stunning ride through hills, rice paddies, and quiet island life. Havelock is the sort of place where you could spend your whole life sitting on its beaches or cycling through its hills, and still be awe-struck every time. Scenery aside, the scuba-diving and snorkeling here is world class, and there are several outfits to choose from. Though Havelock is famous for its budget options, it has a few upmarket resorts and restaurants to choose from.
