Fortín de las Flores (Fort of Flowers)

by Marco Polo

A very pleasant place to spend some time

There was a Spanish fortress here in colonial times but today the flowers blooming. The beautiful main square consists of two equally sized parks connected by a narrow street. In the plaza stand the town hall and the public library. At higher elevations, coffee plantations surround Fortín de las Flores, while fruits like mangoes, oranges, bananas, pineapple and papayas thrive in the lowlands. On a clear day and especially early in the morning, the view of the snow-covered Pico de Orizabais excellent. It is worth browsing around Sunday’s market. The annual flower festival takes place from 15 to 17 April.
