Anahuacalli (Diego Rivera Museum)

by Marco Polo

Rivera himself designed the House of Anáhuac (AnahuacalliMex-Anahuacalli ) to exhibit his excellent collection of pre-Columbian artefacts

The building is made of dark volcanic stone, shaped like a pyramid and reminiscent of a Maya tomb. The museum exhibits roughly 2,000 objects, mostly ceramics of the western cultures and Aztec stone sculptures. There is also a reconstruction of Rivera’s studio.
[P] Among Rivera’s works, "El Hombre en el Cruce de los Caminos" (man at the crossroads) is particularly interesting: it is a study for "El Hombre, Contralor del Universo" (man, controller of the universe), which is on display in the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Museum of Fine Arts).
