Tiptonville is the county seat of Lake County, Tennessee, United States. Its population was 2,439 as of the 2000 census; the town's April 1, 2000 Population Estimates Base (also prepared by the Census Bureau) was 4,291, an estimate which had shrunk by July 1, 2005 to 4,099.
According to the Tennessee Historical Society, Tiptonville was established in 1857 but was not incorporated until 1900.
Tiptonville is the birthplace of musician Carl Perkins and Clifton B. Cates, a former Commandant of the Marine Corps. (...) more....
