In the vast heartland of the peninsula.
"Fascinating towns, castles, convents, and landscapes are waiting to be discovered.
Hundreds of years ago, the Spanish King Philipp II. declared Madrid to the capital city, the great writer Cervantes had his Don Quijote fight windmills, and the national saint Teresa of Avila devoted herself to charity. The center of the Iberian peninsula mainly consists of the greater areas Kastilien-León, Kastilien-La Mancha and Extremadura. To the East, Extremadura borders to Portugal and to the South to Andalusia. As a whole, this area attracts visitors because it’s the least discovered swathe of land. Topographically, the vast plateau of Meseta defines the landscape. Depending on the the water levels, there is either cultivation of grain, agriculture, or vineyards. Altitudes of 2600 and 3200 feet above sea level lead to extreme variations in temperature. Winters are rough, summers hot. Everything, including the metropolis of Madrid, is covered by bright azure.
