Money is an unincorporated Mississippi Delta community in Leflore County, Mississippi, United States, near Greenwood. It has a population of less than 100, down from around 400 in the 1950s when a cotton mill still operated in the community. It is on a railroad line and lies on the Tallahatchie River.
Money became infamous in the U.S. civil rights movement after Emmett Till, a 14 year old native of Chicago, Illinois was killed there after allegedly making suggestive remarks to a white woman in 1955 while visiting family for the summer. It was only his second time in the South. Two white men were acquitted by an all-white jury but confessed to the killings in a magazine interview four months later. Till's mother insisted on an open casket funeral and allowed news photographs of the body to be published, raising Northern awareness of lynching. (...) more....
