The city of Mora sits at the junction of Minnesota Highway 23 and Minnesota Highway 65, and is located in Kanabec County, Minnesota, USA. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,193. It is the county seat of Kanabec County.
The county name is the derivative of an Indian term described as "snake". Major ancestry groups in Kanabec County are German, Swedish and Norwegian.
Among other things, the city of Mora plays host to the Mora Vasaloppet, the largest ski race in Minnesota held in February, as well as the Snake River Canoe Race, the Mora Half-Marathon, and the Mora Bicycle Tour.
Mora is also the home of a gigantic Dala horse, and Clocka which commemorates the town's Swedish roots. Mora's sister city is Mora, Sweden. (...)
