Cotuit

by Wikipedia

Cotuit is a village in the city of Barnstable, Massachusetts, United States. Located on a peninsula on the south side of Barnstable about midway between Falmouth and Hyannis. Cotuit is bounded by the Santuit River to the west on the Mashpee, Massachusetts town line, the village of Marstons Mills, Massachusetts to the north, and Osterville, Massachusetts to the east. Cotuit is primarily residential with several small beaches including Ropes Beach, Riley's Beach, The Loop Beach and Oregon Beach.
According to local historian James Gould, Cotuit is a: "... 5000 year old Indian settlement... it was first settled by whites about 1690. It became a major coastal shipping port in the nineteenth century, building ships at Little River, homeport to whalers and coastal schooners."
The town is quaint with only a few businesses located in the center of the village: a small restaurant and bar called The Kettle-Ho (named after the legend of how the town was acquired from the Indians for a kettle and a hoe), a gas station no longer open for business, a post office (02635), a Federated church and several real estate offices, including Mycock Insurance. To the north on Main Street is a small variety store, the Cotuit Grocery Co. or "Coop" sells groceries, liquor, and has a small deli counter/restaurant. (...) more....
