The sandbar separates the Coyuca lagoon Laguna de Coyuca from the ocean. The panorama is particularly beautiful at sunset, and at night there is a great view of the glittering lights of Acapulco. Pie de la Cuesta is much calmer, cleaner and more peaceful than its famous neighbour. However, the undertow and the often wild surf can make swimming dangerous. Take a boat trip from here to the freshwater lagoon Laguna de Coyuca. This is a natural paradise with freshwater fish and exotic birds living amongst the very dense tropical vegetation. It is possible to find overnight accommodation at the beaches of El Carrizol and Playas de San Jerónimo; you can reach them from Coyuca de Benítez.
