It is so named for the New York stock exchange and the many banks and credit institutions in the area, primarily on Wall Street
Wall Street is named after a defensive wall that once ran along here (“The Wall”), which was supposed to protect the Dutch Nieuw Amsterdam from attacks by the Native Americans and the English. At noon Wall Street and its surroundings are so full of people that it is hard to move forwards; on holidays and on weekends the area is empty of people.
