Though Palo Alto has all the trappings of a fun college town - bars, cafes, restaurants - due to its most well-known resident, Stanford University, it also has a pervasive feeling of new wealth owing to the Silicon Valley-esque companies that have popped up over the years. While Hewlett-Packard has been around for a while, this is also where you're going to find the headquarters of Facebook. In a nutshell: there are a lot of young, smart, rich people running around Palo Alto.
