The little fishing village lies at the end of a narrow and bare promontory, The Palisadoes, and therefore at the entrance of the big port basin of Kingston. It is the most beautiful and well-preserved fortification of the island with a little maritime museum and an exhibition about the history of Port Royal in the old navy hospital. Port Royal was the blossoming and rich headquarters of pirates up to its ultimate destruction by earthquakes and a tidal wave in 1692. The inhabitants of Kingston here come mostly on the weekend to eat fish. The favorite is called Gloria’s. The only hotel is Morgan's Harbor.
