Crete

The Grande Dame of the Mediterranean

Crete has been a player in the history of mankind since thousands of years - e.g. as home to the Minoan civilization, the oldest Greek civilization. Thanks to its slight remoteness in the middle of the Mediterranean, it has never been overwhelmed with tourist hordes, although it has many loyal followers throughout the world. Crete has its own rhythm and life style, and the population is known for leading especially healthy and long lives - maybe thanks to the high consumption of wine and olive oil. Tourists feel attracted by many things: the great coast (check out the palm tree beaches to the west!), the high mountains and the laid back culture. If you like all those things, there is a high chance, you ll love it here - just try it out and take a dip into this island world.
