Ponta do Sol

Ponta do Sol (pron. 'põtɐ du sɔɫ; Portuguese for "Sun Point") is a municipality in the west-central part of Madeira. It has an area of 185.50 km². The 2001 census gives the population as 8,125. The municipality is one of the smallest on the island. It is located southwest of Santana, west of Machico, west of Funchal and southeast of Calheta.
