do you like Khan El-Khalili?

As early as the 14th century, Amir Gorhas Al Khalili, after whom the bazaar is named today, created a khan (caravanserai) here. Since the bazaar quarter has grown over centuries, this is a place to become immersed in a piece of Cairo’s history. Numerous shops and workshops, packed narrow spaces and an enormous range of goods – all of this makes a visit to the Khan el-Khalili an experience, even if you are not looking for jewellery, leatherware or arts and crafts. Those who actually come to shop are well advised to find out about usual prices beforehand and practise the art of negotiation. Since the main customers in the Khan el-Khalili are tourists, the actual sale price generally lies around 30 – 40 % below the price that the vendor states when first asked.
