When the city was founded in 1875, it had a mere 100 inhabitants, and today the population totals about 1.6 million including the metropolitan area. 50,000 people who live here work for the largest employer in Florida: Walt Disney World. The amusement park is located 20 km away, which is why many travelers never get into the city itself, where amongst a few skyscrapers, there is a nice Old Town center.
