When the city was founded in 1875, it had a mere 100 inhabitants, and today the population totals about 1.6 million including the metropolitan area. 50,000 people who live here work for the largest employer in Florida: Walt Disney World. The amusement park is located 20 km away, which is why many travelers never get into the city itself, where amongst a few skyscrapers, there is a nice Old Town center. A must-see is the old Church Street Station, now an entertainment complex. Orlando has a whole range of other leisure facilities, including a huge exhibition and congress center, a university and an international airport.
