Burlington is a town made for strolling. Though it has grown steadily into a city of 40,000 year round residents, it has retained the quaint North Eastern charm of a small community. It spreads along the eastern shore of majestic Lake Champlain and is happily situated between the Adirondak and Green Mountains, making it only a short drive away for eager skiers. The Church Street Marketplace is stacked with shops, boutiques, and restaurants, as well as being, weather permitting, a venue for local performers. The nightlife consists of a nice mixture of dives, college style bars, coffee shops that morph into jazz pubs in the evening, and breweries. Burlington has been variously voted “The Most Healthy City in the U.S.” and “One of the 10 Greatest Places in the U.S.” It is a home to and destination for many outdoor enthusiasts. Besides skiing, Burlington’s natural beauty makes it an ideal location for biking, hiking and lake kayaking or fishing. Locals also boast of a very active community arts program and slews of proudly tended community gardens all over town. If you are looking for a kind balance between city and country, and between hip and hippy, then Burlington just might be your town.
