Portland, Oregon, (pop. 600,000) is located on the West coast of the Northwestern United States. It is often referred to as the greenest large city in the U.S. and the first major U.S. city to be designated Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community. Portland is also known for its large number of microbreweries, microdistilleries and coffee fanatics.
Portland has a temperate climate with warm, dry summers and rainy overcast winters. Within 100 miles is Mt. Hood whose peak rises 11,249 feet (3,429 m) with 12 glaciers, the Columbia River (the 4th largest in the U.S.) and the Pacific Ocean.
