Blue Grotto (Modra Spilja): marine cave on Biševo with enchanting colors
Bisevo (pronounce: Bish-eh-voh) is one of the smallest (6km across) and the most remote island of Croatia and it can be reached in 3 stages every day but Thursday:
1. Ferry or hydrofoil (both departing from Split harbour) to Vis , a small port town on the eponymous island. (+/- 2hrs ride)
2. Bus or car from Vis to Komiza ( 10 km from Vis)
3. Small boat from Komiza to Bisevo (4 sea miles)
or just one on Thursdays:
1.Hydrofoil from Split to Mezoporat (Bisevo's only port village)
Bisevo’s legendary attraction, Modra Spilja (Blue Grotto) is a must for every nature lover. It is a sea cave accessible by boat (but only in fair weather) whose snow-white bottom in midday reflects the sun rays upwards through the turquoise water. Thanks to the cave’s unique configuration, this is its only light source thus giving you the impression of levitation in a mesmerizing blue glow. Swimming in Blue Grotto is an experience you won’t forget in a hurry.
Apart from Blue Grotto, there are many other small and big caves and cliff holes to which the island owns its name (bisha = the hole in the wood made by woodworms).
The beaches vary from sand and pebble to rock, the nature is unspoiled and there are no poisonous flora or fauna.
There are 14 permanent residents on the island, some of whom offer private holiday accommodation (Information: Tourist Info Komiza)
