Big Island, which is actually the island of Hawai’i, is the youngest of Hawai’i’s islands, and it keeps growing daily, thanks to its still active volcano Kilauea. The Kona coast feels like the Garden of Eden. Coffee plantations abound, avocado and mango trees drop their ripe fruits right onto the streets! Since the land is so young beach access isn’t always that easy—it often involves quite a bit of hiking through dried lava. Hilo--the largest city on this island—boasts an amazing farmers’ market, vintage stores and the mesmerizing sound of the Coqui.
