Fit for a demi God
One of Hawai’s six major islands, Maui is by some considered the best Pacific Island. The so-called Valley Isle boasts more than 80 fabulous beaches (in various colors), rain forests, mountains, a volcano crater, waterfalls, unique reef fish, whale watching, …you name it. If you are not greeted with a traditional Lei don’t fret—the intoxicating scent of the plumeria will enchant you every day of your paradise vacation here.
The island’s size is perfect so you can explore it from wherever you decide to stay. Drive the famous Road to Hana on the windward side and stop at Hoopika Beach where surfers gather to catch a good wave, then on to waterfalls of all sizes, bamboo forests, a black beach, rain forests and old charming towns. Experience a sunrise at the island’s volcano Haleakala and ride down its crater on a mountain bike. In between the more athletic endeavors figure out whether you prefer West Maui or South Maui—an ongoing debate among visitors and inhabitants. Formerly a whaling port and Hawai’ian capital Lahaina on the West side is abuzz with its boardwalk, numerous galleries, upscale restaurants and traditional Luau’s. Kihei and its neighboring towns on the South are endowed with one fantastic beach after another. Unless you want to stay in just one place it’s best to rent a car—and Hawai’i offers some of the cheapest rates in the USA.
