Air
The airport is 20 km from Kuah, 8 km from Pentai Cenang. Taxi to Kuah RM12; buy a coupon in the airport. Frequent connections with Subang and Penang with Firefly, KLIA with MAS and Air Asia, and Singapore with SilkAir. There are also flights to Hong Kong (Hong Kong Express) and Bangkok (Thai Airways).

Boat
It is worth hiring a boat if you can get a group together, RM200 per day. Many beach hotels also run boat trips to the islands. Ferries to Langkawi leave from Kuala Perlis (1hr 30 mins, RM18) and Kuala Kedah (1½ hrs, RM23). Timetables subject to seasonal change (fewer boats Apr-Sep). Boats run to Kuala Perlis every hour 0700-1900, RM18. To Kuala Kedah every hour 0700- 1900, RM23. To Penang, 2 departures daily (1430 and 1715), RM60. Leaving Langkawi, there are ticket agents at the ferry. Connections with KL are easiest from Kuala Kedah. If heading east to Kota Bharu take a ferry to Kuala Perlis. Qudrat Bistari Agency, sells bus tickets, at counter 9 at the Kuah jetty.
To Thailand
Langkawi Ferry Services and Labuan Express both run connections with Satun in Thailand, 50 mins, RM30. There are at least 3 ferries a day at 0930, 1300 and 1700. It is possible to buy through tickets in Langkawi to Phuket (RM70), Krabi (RM55) and Surat Thani (RM65) via Satun.
Bus
There are no local buses. It is a 6-hr journey from KL to Kuala Kedah; from there, catch the boat to Langkawi.
