The idyllic, rich fields around Kitchener are home to the deeply religious Mennonites, who have lived almost without change for the last 200 years. You will often see them as you pass their horse-drawn buggies along the highway. The prettiest communities are Elmira, Elora and St. Jacobs. Outside of St. Jacobs in the summer there is a giant Farmers’ Market & Flea Market, where farmers offer their sausage, preserves and handicrafts.
