A futuristic glass dome atop six hot-water tanks
Reykjavik's second most famous landmark is a blend of pragmatism and futurism. “The Pearl,” with its reflective glass dome atop six hot-water tanks, sits on the summit of Öskjuhlíð, a forested hill. Its interior provides room for receptions and small conventions, and one of the tanks contains a history museum. An observation platform has been built over the tanks, around the dome, and you can see as far as Snæfellsjökull from there. The crowning touch is a gourmet restaurant that revolves every two hours.
