Gold Reef City

There is no mountain range, river or port in Johannesburg, and so why were so many people, both black and white, congregated here in such numbers in the first place? The answer is simple, gold. The discovery of gold saw fortune seekers of all kinds come to Johannesburg in the hopes of striking it rich. A few old gold mines can still be seen in and around Johannesburg. You must visit the Gold Reef City Theme Park, not far from the centre of Johannesburg, in order to discover the excitement of the gold rush times, where you can see old mining offices now turned into museums, take a trip underground into a real gold mine, watch a gold bar being poured, and experience the energy of the mine dances of the time.
