A trip into Wadi Watir and onwards into the Coloured Canyon is one of the most beautiful excursions on Sinai – do not miss this natural spectacle under any circumstances!
The canyon extends approximately 30km/19mi north-west of Nuweiba. Since the final 10km/6mi consist of dirt road, an all-wheel drive vehicle is essential for this trip. The road ends on a plateau from where a descent is made into the canyon – good footwear is recommended for this hike, which is otherwise not very demanding and takes approximately one and a half hours. At its deepest point, the canyon shrinks to a narrow ravine bordered by high cliffs – the result of a natural process that took thousands of years. Some of the reddish sandstone bears beautiful drawings. A Bedouin stand with refreshments awaits at the end of the hike.

The ascent to the plateau of departure is a bit stiff but we must win this time of quiet happiness before exiting 4X4 rocked like bottles of Orangina on the corrugated iron which provides in addition a high note funny for a excellent morning.
