Drive from Cahuita to Manzanillo: Black-sand beaches, lush vegetation and picturesque villages

A palm-lined road leads into the Caribbean-coast town of Cahuita, a popular meeting-point for young travelers who prize life on the beach, exotic food and cheap digs in small hotels. Cahuita National Park--one of the prettiest in Costa Rica with its swamps, mangrove forests, toucans, hummingbirds and parrots, as well as pristine white-sand beaches--begins here and stretches south to Puerto Vargas. A coral reef offshore--the largest in the country--is home to three dozen species of coral and more than a hundred different fishes. Hotels we recommend ;El Encanto B & B.
