Don’t visit the National Theater in San José just for its café…
Begun in 1891, this building, modeled on the Paris Opera, opened with “Faus”t in 1897. With its marble steps and frescos, gilded foyer and Venetian mirrors, it is the finest theater in Central America. The floor of the auditorium can be raised to stage level to create a ballroom space. The theater also houses an elegant belle-époque café.
