From the edge of the crater of Irazú volcano, 3432 m, which last erupted between 1963 and 1965, you will experience not just a cold wind, but a bird’s eye view of the countryside, with its rich fields and little villages. Just after sunrise, on clear days during the dry seas, you can see both oceans: the beaches of the Gulf of Nicoya (Pacific) on one side, and the Caribbean coast on the Atlantic side. To the north, Lake Nicaragua glistens. During the drive approaching Volcán Irazú National Park you will enjoy views of the mountains of the Central Valley, which are filled with potato and strawberry fields, groves of oaks, and Holstein dairy cattle.
