Fantastic views of a river meandering through a picturesque valley
Southeast of Cartago you go through Paraíso into a valley watered by the Río Grande de Orosí (which becomes the Reventazón River), which is dammed near Cachí. A viewpoint--the Mirador Orosí--provides a pretty vista of the lovely valley. Spend the night in the Hotel Río Palomo on the river. After crossing the high dam on the eastern shore of the lake, return to Paraíso through the town of Ujarrás with its ruins of a colonial church. In Paraíso there are two great hotels: the Sanchiri Lodge, run by a local family, and the Rancho Perlas Resort & Spa.
