In the early 1960s, a “wood rush” began on this thinly settled peninsula, and much of its hardwood forest fell to the loggers by 1975 - when Corcovado National Park was established. The park contains many rare species of trees, plus 100 species of reptiles, 300 of birds and 150 mammals. On its northwestern side there is Bahía Drake, an isolated natural paradise with a clean beach and green vegetation extending right to the sand. The five cabins at Albergue Jade Mar Doña Marta offer a comfortable place to stay.
