Tiwanaku: Mysterious ruin site with crying gods

The highest and largest navigatable highland lake of the world, which is shared by Peru and Bolivia, is not far from La Paz. It is picturesquely flanked by the snow-covered Cordilleras in the east. The little harbor of Huatajata is a starting point for tours to Lake Titicaca with fast boats organized by the agency Crillon Tours. The organizer also runs the luxury hotel Inca Utama Hotel & Spa here. The hydrofoils usually drive to the small Isla de la Luna (Moon Island) first, where the virgin temple of the Incas can be seen. From there, they drive to the biggest island, the idyllically quiet Isla del's sol (Sun Island). The hotels La Posada del Inca and the Ecolodge La Estancia offer fantastic views. The next destination is Copacabana on the south shore. This is the hotel with the most beautiful view of Rosario del Lago. The excavations site Tiwanaku (or Tiahuanaco) is a must if you’re interested in archeology. It is located west of La Paz, approximately an hour's drive and part of the region of Lake Titicaca.
