On the Plaza de Armas is the 19th-century neoclassical cathedral, designed by the English architect Andrew Townsend, whose descendants can still be identified among the towns principals. The private Club de la Unión is on the plaza at the corner of Calle San José. Where Avenida Balta meets Bolognesi, a Paseo de Las Musas has been built, with pleasant gardens, statues of the Greek muses and imitation Greek columns. A similar Paseo de Los Héroes is at the opposite end of town. Another newish plaza is Parque Leonardo Ortiz, with a statue of Ñaylamp, buildings in the Lambayeque style and fountains.

@miguelveraleon Strangely though, I miss the EPSEL bus station. It´s a kind of ordered chaos - the only form of order Chiclayo has.

@miguelveraleon Seriously, Lambayeque pueblo would win any beauty contest with Chiclayo.

After Juliaca, Chiclayo may just be Peru´s most ugly city. But the stuff that surrounds it is simply awe inspiring.
