Within the park is the Museum of Art which was built in 1868 as the Palacio de la Exposición.
The building was designed by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. There are more than 7000 exhibits, giving a chronological history of Peruvian cultures and art from the Paracas civilization up to today. They include excellent examples of 17th- and 18th-century Cuzco paintings, a beautiful display of carved furniture, heavy silver and jewelled stirrups and also pre-Columbian pottery. A 'filmoteca' (cinema club) is on the premises and shows films almost every night; consult the local paper for details, or look in the museum itself.
