One of the most underrated museums in the city
The only museum in the country of its kind, the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum not only collects and displays art made by war veterans, but through art, tries to foster a greater understanding of the impact of war. Thus, themes of the work are generally combat- and war-related, and can strike some deep emotional chords; the museum was founded in 1981 by a group of Vietnam veterans who believed in the therapeutic nature of artistic expression for those who had been afflicted with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
