New York's mecca for contemporary art

Though the New Museum has been around since 1977, it moved to a new location in the ever-hip Bowery in 2007 that is twice the size of the original. Housed in a building that, itself, is a work of art - seven boxes, strikingly stacked and encased in aluminum mesh - the New Museum is the only museum in New York City dedicated exclusively to contemporary art from around the world. With a mission that simply states, "New Art New Ideas," this is a great place to find not only photography and paintings, but also groundbreaking exhibits incorporating new media.
