Little Italy

A one-street wonder

Historically, Little Italy covered an area at least five times as big as the four-block stretch it now occupies on Mulberry St. But Asian immigrants have resulted in a sprawling Chinatown, and what was once the domain of pizzas and marinara has increasingly become the land of noodles and fish mongers. But Mulberry St. is the final holdout - you can still find great Italian shops selling authentic bufalo di mozzarella, amaretti and pancetta, but most of the street is ironically occupied by overpriced, generic Italian restaurants. But Little Italy is still worth a visit, especially during the summer when the San Gennaro street festival takes over Mulberry St.

Probably the tourist district around the city, but even if much comes across bold, you can still find more ingenious Italian cafes and restaurants
