Billed as "a living memorial to the Holocaust," the Holocaust Museum opened to the public in 1993. The building itself is designed to conjure feelings of fear and solemnity, and the collection itself is no less thought-provoking; as a result of its role as a center for the documentation and study of the Holocaust, the Museum boasts one of the world's most extensive collections of Holocaust-related material, with over 49 million pages of archival documents, 80,000 historical photographs, and 9,000 oral history testimonies. There are four floors of permanent exhibit, so plan to spend a few hours here.
