Home to the U.S. Naval Academy and the Maryland State House, Annapolis is a quaint city that exudes stateliness and old-world charm. And you can ditch your car; the compact downtown area is full of historic buildings and small shops located on cobblestone lanes, perfect for strolling on a summer evening. However, the picturesque harbor is perhaps the main attraction in Annapolis. Sailboats are a common sight during the summer, but there are numerous events held at the harbor throughout the year. Annapolis' location on the water also guarantees some of the best crab in the country -- specialties include soft-shell crab and crabcakes. Though there isn't much to occupy you for more than a few days, it is a perfect getaway if you are visiting D.C. or Baltimore.
