The Ferry Building was built from 1896 until 1903. Before the construction of the two big bridges - the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge - the Ferry Building was the main hub for all ferries and boats crossing the bay. Even before 1936 more than 50 million passengers disembarked here from all the ferries arriving from the North and East of the bay. Only recently, the Ferry Building with its 70m high bell tower was completely renovated and now offers plenty of cafes, restaurants, book stores and a nice Farmer's Market with local products. Great location for a weekend stroll.
