Gondolas slide across canyons and the glorious tops of the jungle

The 5-mile-long cableway leads to the mountainous outback of Cairns, with its fascinating vegetation. The gondolas slide directly across the dramatic canyon and the waterfalls of the Barron River. The destination Kuranda, once an alternative hippie village, is pretty overrun these days. It’s best to use the old excursion train, the Kuranda Scenic Train, to get back.
